Why
Trying to get your business ‘out there’ is hard.
Regardless, if you are just starting out or coming in as a newbie to the Hickory area.
And No matter what marketers will tell you, there is no easy button to getting your name out there.
SEO ain’t it. Facebook advertising ain’t it. Google advertising ain’t it. Juggling multiple social platforms like Alignable, LinkedIn, Nextdoor, TikTok, or whatever Gary V is telling you to harass your friends about with this week.
And if your starting out or new to the area and you don’t know where to begin or where to start putting your marketing dollars.
It’s in a local group.
Top of the Budget
I tell my clients that at the top of their marketing budgets - THE TOP - there needs to be one thing that they will hang their hat on.
It shouldn’t be Insta ads, Facebook ads, not google ads, billboards, benches (I love seeing these around town), not newspaper, not radio, not free local publications..
I am not saying any of these things are bad.
Heck, my primary source of income is doing 3 of these for my clients!
All I am saying is that your marketing budget should be a list of things in order of importance. So when you have to start making a cut to the marketing budget you know how it’s going to go.
I coach my clients to have answers before the question even presents itself for their business, so they don’t make a rash decision in the moment. Let’s have a plan for when that DOES happen so we don’t make a rash decision in the moment.
Those rash decisions will ripple into hundreds, if not thousands of dollars of loss through your business if you shoot from the hip with a major - sudden- problem.
Your marketing should look like a CVS receipt. Not quite Santa Claus’ naughty or nice list but, long enough to be sorta of alarmed.
When you do have to start cutting things, you start at the bottom. The least amount of ROI to the top ranking ROI.
Some of our marketing is hard to gauge when talking ROI because of how hard it is to track where things are coming from in 2026.
I will always tell people that you should be doing a little bit of all of those things though, if your budget allows it. FB Ads, billboards, magazines, etc etc.
STILL.
You should not only join a local group but, put it at the top of your marketing budget.
I think we can all agree sometimes it feels like our markets are a little unpredictable right? With the world we are living in? We are all out here watching gas prices.
The marketing budget is almost always the first to go. Normally, starting at the bottom of that list and work your way up, at least I hope you do.
The last thing to go, and at the TOP of your marketing budget should be a local group.
Use the guide above to find the right one for you. If one doesn’t jive for you then, try another one but, what I would recommend?
I would recommend trying them all.
I wish I had something like this when I first came to the area. That’s why I made the guide. For the influx of new people we have coming into our area. Especially in these next few months before school begins again. This is moving in season!

The cool thing for me is that little connection, I just made for you.
Connecting you to a good person that will sit with you. And now you’ll know someone when are walking into that new room.
