Hickory FC Game
On a foggy chilly Saturday, on May 23rd, 2026 our Hickory FC’s had their first home game of the 2026 season against the South Carolina United Bantams at LR which we won 2-1.
There were people from Florida, Boston, Pittsburgh, California, Hickory, Statesville, Michigan, Morganton and they were all in attendance.
You would never know it.
We played corn hole with a group of people we had never met. Invited them to come and play with the rest of us. Hang out because we are all there as one, in our community.
They played a couple games with our kids, friends, ate, and hung out with strangers before the game started.
Well, they were strangers 10 minutes before joining us - you know what I mean.
Sports builds community like that.
Hickory Algorithm Mastermind Group (more info click here) was there in force with almost half our seat holders sitting around talking with our families. Laughing, eating, playing games, listening to the marching band, seeing local influencers left and right, fellow small business owners outside of their networking groups, and inviting what used to be strangers 10 minutes ago over to sit with us and celebrating the community of Hickory, North Carolina.
While Hickory looks so divided on our local message boards fighting over the influx of people coming into our area, you would never know it at the Hickory FC win last night.
I mean did you see the band in the parking lot?
Sports.

One of the world’s greatest connectors is sports.
Playing sports, rooting for sports, betting on sports, attending your kids sports events, or watching sports with family on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s or in person.
When your team scores a goal or a touchdown and you’re out watching the game at your favorite sports bar. It doesn’t matter where the people around you are from or where you where you are from or where they hold their job title. If you they are cheering you can turn to that person and high 5.
There is no, where are you from?
There is no, what do you do?
Heck, I have hugged many people I never knew their names and have never seen that person ever again after a sports event.
It’s sports.
It’s beautiful.
It’s community.
