I’ll Meet You There
By: Chris Goldby ∣ Hickory Algorithm
Every origin story has one thing in common: a moment. That one point where all the work, all the struggle, all the belief that something might be possible finally manifests into an opportunity. But here’s the catch—you have to be willing to take it.
For me, music has always been that reminder. My favorite artist of all time is Lindsey Buckingham. Most people know him as the singer and guitarist for Fleetwood Mac. For me, though, his music has been more than just sound. It has been the backdrop of nearly every big decision in my life.
My brother and I have seen him live 26 times. Twenty-six. From clubs to stadiums, from his solo shows to those few rare Fleetwood Mac reunions, his presence has been a constant thread through the story of my life. Albums spinning on the turntable in my first apartment. Posters and covers hanging in every office I’ve ever worked in. His voice in the background as I made choices—good and bad—that shaped the road I’ve walked.
Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest dramas in rock and roll history. The media loves to focus on the chaos—relationships imploding, egos clashing, songs written as messages to one another on stage. And yes, the drama was endless.
But the truth is, Lindsey Buckingham’s creative influence was undeniable. When he left Fleetwood Mac in 1987, he famously pointed out that they needed two guitarists and singers to replace him. And even then, nothing they produced had the same staying power.
Now, Apple TV is set to release a series about the making of Rumours, arguably one of the most iconic albums of all time. With all that attention, Fleetwood Mac is about to dominate headlines again.
Before Fleetwood Mac. Before Rumours. Before the stadium tours and worldwide fame—there was Buckingham Nicks.
Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks met in high school. Stevie heard Lindsey singing at a party, and from there, the two of them began collaborating. They moved in together, and as naturally as breathing, they began to create. The result was the 1973 album Buckingham Nicks.
“Frozen Love” isn’t just one of my favorite songs—it’s one of my top three of all time. It builds like a thunderstorm, climbing toward one of the greatest guitar solos I’ve ever heard. The kind of solo that feels like it could split the sky open. And yet, it’s a song that only a fraction of people have ever truly heard.
Why? Because Buckingham Nicks was never re-released. Never remastered. The only legal way to hear it for decades was to have bought it when it first came out in 1973.
My brother and I would spend weekends scouring record shows, digging through bins, hunting for copies. We managed to collect a few. And over the years, those records became more than collectibles—they became the soundtrack of Sundays at home. Cooking dinner for the family, music playing start to finish, beginning again as soon as the needle lifted.
This September 19th, that all changes. For the first time, Buckingham Nicks will be reissued. I’ll call my shot now: it will debut at #1.
And when it does, maybe more people will finally hear what I’ve known all along—that “Frozen Love” is a masterpiece. That first riff stuns you, the vocals chill, the guitar builds like a thunder storm, and this was before Fleetwood Mac.
Before.

The Soundtrack of Building
Why am I telling you this story in a business newsletter?
Because music is more than background noise. It’s influence. It’s presence. It’s the thing that sits with us in the quiet moments before decisions, during the grind of work, and in the celebrations afterward. Lindsey Buckingham’s work has been that for me.
Every time I faced a decision—leaving a career I knew for 23 years, starting something new at 42, walking into rooms full of strangers to try to build connections—the soundtrack was there. Not pushing me forward, not pulling me back, but reminding me that the work itself mattered. That every origin story has its breakthrough moment, and if you go forward… well, the opportunity will be waiting.
Build. Connect. Show up. Create the soundtrack for other people’s stories.
And sometimes, yeah, it means writing an entire newsletter about a song.
