You Ever Just Get SO MAD!

Sometimes, you just have to get SO MAD.
Not mildly annoyed. Not a little frustrated. I’m talking about that can’t-think-straight, where-the-hell-is-it, pacing-around-the-room kind of mad.
That’s what happened to me recently.
Our Members Only group—a seat-exclusive networking group built around trust and growth of the room, had just finished a great conversation around our first book club read: *Seven Frequencies of Communication* by Erwin Raphael McManus (←—link to book). I was one-third of the way into the book, already picking up some incredible insights, and excited to dive deeper. We plan on discussing which frequencies each one of us in the room is our core communication frequency. I was ready to dive in!
Later that day, I dropped my oldest son off at football practice at Hickory High School. With a rare two-hour block of quiet time ahead of me, I decided to unplug—no work, no phone, no distractions. Just me and the book.
Except I couldn’t find the book. 🤬
I checked everywhere. My car. My bag. My desk. The house. Nowhere. And I was SO MAD. Not just because I couldn’t read—but because I had carved out time for *me*, and now it felt wasted.
In my frustration, I grabbed another book I had left sitting for a few weeks: *The Art of Gathering* by Priya Parker (←—Link). I wasn’t in the mood for it. I wanted to read what I planned to read. Still mad, I started reading anyway.
And then something happened.
A few pages in, a WORD struck a nerve. Then another. My mindset began to shift. The book—one I had cooled on weeks ago—was suddenly saying exactly what I needed to hear. And in that moment, my antenna picked up something.
Artists like Lindsey Buckingham, Tobias Forge, and Rick Rubin talk about the idea of “the antenna”—this notion that inspiration is always in the air, waiting for us to tune in. But we have to be open to receiving it.
That moment of frustration turned into focus. An idea hit me. One I’m not ready to share yet—but it came rushing through because I was so mad, I picked up something I wouldn’t have touched otherwise.
It’s wild how the pendulum can swing.
Being SO MAD can cloud your judgment—but sometimes it redirects your energy. Redirects the motive. It shakes you loose from your routine. It knocks you sideways into something unexpected… and unknown.
So the next time you’re furious—don’t dismiss it. Let it move you. Let it fuel you.
Sometimes being SO MAD is the very thing that pushes you into a new direction.
And if you're listening, and your antenna is open…. the universe can take you to places you never thought you could go.

Or drive back and sleep in your own bed - either way Trail by Fire is awesome!
