Be Curious, Not Judgmental
By: Chris Goldby ∣ Hickory Algorithm
The writing class I have been taking at CVCC, taught by T. Rafael Cimino ended this week.
And it ended with me pitching my potential script to the class. Talk about nerve racking.
It’s one thing to create and it’s a whole other level of uncomfortable when you got to sell it to a group of people that have no idea what your idea even is.
5 minutes.
I’ve done hundreds of 30 second pitches, hundreds of 60 second pitches, and many 10 minute presentations. None of that comes close to the discomfort of pitching my script.
In marketing it’s selling more customers. Every meeting you go into has a general idea of how the conversation can go. But this class? You never knew what was coming because I was so far out of my comfort zone.
I met Jermi Little in this class.
He is clearly much further along with the dreams he is chasing. His #fortheloveofthegame is unquestioned. He knows what he wants and runs as hard as he can towards it.
I admire that so much about him.
He’s not waiting around for a magic blessing to nudge him in a direction or that some glass slipper is going to be left at the right location for it to find, only him.
Nope. He just goes to work.
Jermi took the time from his insane schedule to sit down with a guy he met in his writing class to have a conversation in Downtown Hickory. The town he was born in and currently resides.
It was such a blast to leave my comfort zone. To venture out into the unknown and find someone I can’t wait to keep rooting for. It’s a wild conversation about Hickory and the film industry.
I hope you enjoy the episode.

In a world craving authentic stories, this film captures the essence of human connection and resilience, resonating deeply with today’s audiences. Sonya, Sonya, Sonya, based on a true story, emotionally defines and empathetically embraces one powerful woman’s journey as she loses the battle of breast cancer and reconnects with her long lost love before doing so.
