What Is Our Purpose Here?
It is purpose that created us.
Purpose that connects us.
Purpose that pulls us forward, that guides our steps, that fuels our effort.
It’s purpose that defines who we are—and just as importantly, who we are becoming.
Holidays bring out purpose. As we are surrounded by loved ones, foods, gifts, beliefs and celebration; Purpose bleeds in.
One of the first podcast we did was one with Rodney and Martha Pegues from Pegues Catering. I met Rodney at a barbershop in Hickory. He was getting his hair cut but he brought the barber a plate of his pulled pork. We got to talking, my wife and I visited his family’s food truck, and since then we fell in love because their purpose was right there in their food! Incredible food.
Their catering business, their food truck, and their famous fish fry didn’t come from a random idea—it came from something deeper. A calling. A sense of purpose that extended beyond a plate of food.
And that got me thinking—what does purpose look like when you take away the labels?
Strip away the titles. The roles. The expectations. The degrees. The platforms. The pressure.
What remains?
Purpose is not one-size-fits-all. It’s not tied to your religion, your status, or your salary. It’s not reserved for the loudest voices in the room or the people with the most followers.
People love saying what’s your why? Family, kids, title, home, boat etc. Why is the answer to a question. Purpose comes from within ourselves. A higher calling inside of each of us uniquely different. Purpose.
Purpose is personal.
It’s quiet sometimes. Steady. Often felt more than spoken. It’s what gets you up in the morning when motivation doesn’t. It’s what you fight for when no one’s watching. It’s the reason behind the reason you do what you do.
For Rodney and Martha, it’s feeding people. It’s love served on a plate. It’s showing up for their community, one event, one fish fry at a time. That is happening today!
For you?
It might be raising a child.
Or building a business.
Or creating art.
Or helping someone else believe in themselves. 💪
Your purpose might not even be fully formed yet—but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be open enough to listen for it.
Purpose isn’t about perfection. It’s about direction.
➡️ Onward. Forward.
And when we follow it—when we honor it—we build more than careers or connections.
We build legacy.
So today, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
What is my purpose here?
You might be surprised by what rises up to meet you.

We talk about our #fortheloveofthegame. How their food speaks to who they are. Catering events, how family has helped them hone their skills, and unexpected avenues led them to their why, no, their Purpose.
Last week Pegues Catering had a Soul Food fundraiser that we couldn’t pass up. Pulled pork, smoked chicken, collards, Mac and cheese, Cole slaw, banana pudding, sweet tea, and all of it homemade. When you taste their food, their purpose is unmistakable. I’ll see them at 11am today because I am NOT missing the fish fry!

🎧The MADMAN Playlist: Featuring Lindsey Buckingham
🎧 The Madman Playlist: Featuring Lindsey Buckingham
For me, the ultimate madman has always been Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Since I was young, Lindsey Buckingham has been my creative north star. A creative source I draw energy from. I’ve seen him live 24 times (maybe 26—my brother keeps the official count).
If I had a time machine, I wouldn’t go back to change history—I’d go back to 1982, the year I was born, just to catch Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage Tour. The energy, the era, the passion, the magic… unreal. A madman unraveling on stage every night. Burning like a shooting star on a dark night.
Hit play. Let the madness inspire you.
