The Importance of Rooms: Choosing Spaces That Shape You
I got a thing with doors, always have. Not in the way I look at front doors, or how the intricacies of the artist’s work on the door. It’s about the feeling of walking THROUGH the door that resinates with me.
If you walk into my house a lot of the custom art on the walls are of doors. It’s odd, I get it.

Each door represents a new or old feeling. Think about when we are leaving our comfort zone to walk into a new unknown opportunity. We have to walk through the door. That moment of ‘here we go - I’m doing it’ diving into the deep end of a pool that may or may not work out but, you opened that door and gave it a shot.
We often underestimate the power of the rooms we walk into. Through the door it takes us to the room. Whether it’s a home, an office, or a gathering of like-minded people, the spaces/rooms we choose to enter—and the communities we build within them—have a profound impact on who we become.
Think about your home. It’s your most personal room, and it reflects the environment you create for yourself. It’s where you recharge, set your intentions, and build the habits that carry you forward. Is it a room that brings you peace, focus, and clarity? Or is it cluttered, both physically and mentally, keeping you stuck in old patterns? The space you create at home sets the foundation for everything else—including how you show up in other rooms.
Now, consider where you work. This room plays a major role in your growth. Are you in a space that encourages collaboration, innovation, and connection? Or is it a room where energy is drained, creativity is stifled, and relationships are transactional at best? The people we work with, the conversations we have, and the opportunities we create together all come from the environment we choose. A strong professional room should be filled with people who challenge you to grow and offer support when you need it most.
And then there are the rooms we step into by choice—networking events, mastermind groups, volunteer circles, and community gatherings. These rooms are where the real magic happens. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Your network is your net worth.” It’s true. The people you surround yourself with can open doors you didn’t even know existed. When you’re intentional about entering rooms filled with people who are growing, learning, and building, you naturally start doing the same. You become part of a community that lifts each other up, shares resources, and celebrates wins together.
But here’s the key: you have to choose those rooms. You have to walk through the door. Sometimes that means leaving behind a room that’s no longer serving you, even if it’s comfortable. Growth often requires a shift—stepping into new spaces with new people who see your potential and push you toward it.
The rooms you’re in today are shaping the person you’ll be tomorrow. If you want to grow, expand your network, and be part of a thriving community, you need to be intentional about where you spend your time and who you spend it with.
Because the right room doesn’t just change your day—it can change your life.
🤝The Original Algorithm: Quality People. Quality Networking
In a world flooded with digital platforms, marketing strategies, and the latest “must-try” tools, it’s easy to forget that the best business growth tool has been around since the dawn of humanity—people connecting with people.
At Hickory Algorithm, we believe in leveraging modern strategies like social media, podcasts, and content marketing. But none of it matters if you’re not surrounding yourself with quality people. The rooms we are in matter. That’s why our Members Only space focuses on more than just strategy—we’re about relationships. Real connections that don’t require an app or algorithm to thrive.
Business has always been built on trust, handshakes, and shared stories over coffee. Platforms change, but people? People are the constant. And when you bring quality people together, that’s where the magic happens.
Members only is a paid membership with seat exclusivity, mandatory attendance, bi weekly meetings in Downtown Hickory, no 60 seconds, no elevator pitch, no feature presenters, and a room where the focus is on growth with quality people.
If you’re looking for a space where old-school business values meet modern innovation, the Hickory Algorithm Members Only community is where you belong.

💡Are Female Athletes More Likely to Tear Their ACL’s💡
by: Jeff Smith of Biokinetics Rehab
Female athletes tear their anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) at an alarmingly higher rate in certain sports, including basketball, team handball, and soccer. The incidence of female to male is 3.5 times greater in basketball and 2.8 times greater in soccer.
It has been determined that the categories of risk factors for ACL injuries in athletes are anatomical, environmental, hormonal, and biomechanical. Neuromuscular factors appear to be the most important reason for the higher rate of ACL injuries in females compared to males. The at-risk situations for non-contact ACL injuries appear to be deceleration, cutting or changing directions, and landing.
Research and studies have shown that knee alignment during vertical jumping, and Quadriceps:
Hamstrings ratio are significant modifiable risk factors that contribute to ACL injuries. Studies have also proven that a greater than 10% power discrepancy between the right and left leg increases the individual’s susceptibility of injury by 50%.
What can I do to decrease my risk of tearing an ACL?
At Biokinetics Rehab, we have developed an enhanced assessment procedure to identify the risk and areas of concern with confidence and provide an ACL Injury Prevention program to decrease the chance of future injury or to facilitate a full-return to sports participation after injury.
Following a thorough functional analysis, musculoskeletal evaluation, and agility assessment, we will initiate a precise training program over a four-week period focused on footwork, lateral movement, strength, stabilization, and plyometric exercises to address potential deficits in the strength and coordination of the stabilizing muscles around the knee joint.
Patients do not need to have a physician referral to have therapy at Biokinetics Rehab, and we will make every attempt to get you seen within 24-48 hours instead of having to wait weeks for an appointment. We have the ability to spend the time needed to address your concerns and have the knowledge and experience to restore you to your highest level of function.
Contact Biokinetics Rehab to begin your ACL Injury Prevention Program now ; you can call us to make an appointment right now at (828) 528-1222.
Thank you to Jeff Smith for this week’s Round Table article.

🎼 New playlist 🎼
March Update - Playlist<~~~~ LINK
The Hickory Algorithm playlist is heavily influenced by the blossoming of Spring. The songs you just feel the weather on your face. Windows down. Who’s not in the mood for a melody? I’m in the mood.
Deep Stone Lullaby by Michael Sechrist · Skye Lewin · Michael Salvatori - Such a beautiful calming instrumental. This song makes it to all my background noise/work mixes.
The Green Manalishi (with the two prong crown) by Fleetwood Mac w/Billy Gibbons and Kirk Hammett - This song, this exact version, is going to have it’s own feature in this newsletter one day. An amazing guitar player plays a dead guy’s guitar from 60s. Chills.
Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart - I was trying to find my voice for how I wanted to advertise the Hickory Algorithm. The colors of the logo I love but what about my own marketing? What does that look like? What does that feel like? What does my advertising look like? Something like this song.🕶️
The sun in shining, the playlist is playing, and your driving down an open road. The feeling of discovery is beautiful for the soul. Don’t look back - ease up - keep going.
