“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.” - Tim Cahill
Networking with a Finish Line in Mind
We often think of networking as a quick exchange—a handshake, a card, a social follow. But what if we started looking at it more like training for a Tough Mudder or Spartan Race? What if networking wasn’t just about the moment—but about the mission?
At The Hickory Algorithm, we’ve been dreaming bigger. Yes, we’re launching weekly businesses. Yes, we’re telling stories through our podcast. But now we’re building something with distance, harder to do, more commitment, and more meaningful: a year-long journey to take on a physical and mental challenge as a group—something like a Tough Mudder or Spartan Race.
Will it be hard? Absolutely. 💪
Are we ready? Not even close. 👎
But that’s the point. ⬅️
We’re introducing NetWALKing—a weekly networking walk every Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00am on the City Walk in Hickory. It’s free, consistent, and rooted in the idea that connection and momentum go hand in hand.
Networking isn’t a sprint. It’s not about how many people you can pitch in 30-60 seconds or whatever your group allows for the two hours you are there. It’s about building trust over time. It’s about showing up when it’s uncomfortable, following through when it’s inconvenient, and being part of something that makes everyone stronger—together. That’s what’s up 💪
Much like training for a year-out fitness challenge, building a powerful network requires:
• Commitment: Showing up regularly even when the results aren’t immediate.
• Unity: Pacing alongside others, celebrating their wins, and being honest about your own struggles.
• Vision: Keeping your eyes on the finish line, even when you’re still walking mile one.
NetWALKing is about getting better—one step at a time. It’s about setting a long-term goal and creating community accountability around it. Whether your challenge is physical, business-related, or personal, this is your space to walk, talk, and grow.
So come move with us.
Bring your beverage, your stories, your sneakers.
We’re not there yet, but we’re on our way.
Let’s NetWALK, Hickory.
Together, we go further.

🎧The MADMAN Playlist: Featuring Lindsey Buckingham
🎧 The Madman Playlist: Featuring Lindsey Buckingham
Every work out needs a good playlist!
A madman can reach the highest highs. They see the why, they know the path—but they don’t exactly play well with others.
For me, the ultimate madman has always been Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Since I was young, Lindsey Buckingham has been my creative north star. A creative source I draw energy from. I’ve seen him live 24 times (maybe 26—my brother keeps the official count).
His intensity, vision, style, range, and raw talent are unmatched. I spent many hours on the Fleetwood Mac The Ledge message board over the course of my life with fellow die hard Fleetwood Mac fans - I lived on that Lindsey message board!
So this month, we’re kicking off our brand-new Madman Playlist with a tribute to him.
If I had a time machine, I wouldn’t go back to change history—I’d go back to 1982, the year I was born, just to catch Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage Tour. The energy, the era, the passion, the magic… unreal. A madman unraveling on stage every night. Burning like a shooting star on a dark night.
Hit play. Let the madness inspire you.
The Chain - Fleetwood Mac (Mirage 1982) - This is up there with Woodstock Jimi Hendrix. Go Ahead. Roll your eyes because by the end of this version you're going to be leaning forward in your chair with your eyes wide open - unreal - watch it on YouTube here. I believe this was on HBO at one time?
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac (Mirage 1982) - If you ask The Hickory Algorithm what his favorite song of all time is? Go Your Own Way. Great version. Lindsey and Stevie just screaming at each other is Fleetwood Mac 🏆
Big Love - Lindsey Buckingham (live solo - no band) - The range of talent is what makes Lindsey such a dynamic madman. His finger picking style blazes on the guitar on this one.
Go Insane - Lindsey Buckingham (live solo - no band) - As much as his finger picking style blazes on Big Love, his range is even more broad with his remake of his 1980’s title song to this album. One of my wife’s favorites.
“And I go insane - like I always do. And I call your name. “ - Lindsey Buckingham (my favorite Madman)
