I Didnât Think I Needed a Website⊠Until I Did.

Iâve got a weekly newsletter, a YouTube channel, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. Content orbiting đž all over the place. So why on earth would I need a websiteâanother vessel to manage?
Thatâs what I told myself for a long time.
I figured people would find our content across platforms, get to know The Hickory Algorithm, and connect. But eventually, I realized:
What about the people who donât know us yet?
Where do they land when they hear the name? Where do they go when someone says, âYou gotta check this outâ?
It became clearâwe didnât need a traditional website. We needed a hub. A signal. A place to land. đž
So I started asking questions. I dug into SEO, landing pages, and the way everything connects online. What I found were story after story of businesses overpaying for websites from âindustry expertsâ who sell hard, hold the domain hostage, and leave their clients saying, âI guess itâs working?â
That wasnât going to be me.
I wanted someone local. Someone I could sit down with, share a coffee, and talk face-to-face. Because Hickory is - the best, and I believe in building with the creative people around me.
Thatâs how I found Kanso Creative.
I met with Andrew and Hayden at Happy Sips with a list of questionsâand they answered every one. From domain ownership (pro tip: own your domain) to long-term flexibility, they helped me see how my vision could take shape.
Then they hit me with a questionnaire. I filled out every section⊠except one:
âSend us media that reflects the style you want for your website.â
I thought about it. A lot. I looked at âmarketing websitesâ and felt nothing but cookie-cutter vibes. Thatâs not what the Algorithm is about.
So I sent them this:
đ Destiny 2: Lightfall (Game Awards Trailer)
Yup. A video game trailerâbut one that captured everything I loved: vibrant colors, bold movement, and connection lines pulsing with energy (weapon skins).
This trailer centered around an ability called Strandâthe universal energy that connects all things. That green webbing? Thatâs the connective tissue. And I liked that. It reminded me of what Hickory Algorithm is all aboutâstrengthening the bonds between people, ideas, and growth.
âŻContent that connects.
And now? Weâve got a website that doesnât look like a typical marketing site. And I like that.
Because this isnât a typical business. This is Hickory Algorithm.

For me, the ultimate madman has always been Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Since I was young, Lindsey Buckingham has been my creative north star. A creative source I draw energy from. Iâve seen him live 24 times (maybe 26âmy brother keeps the official count).
His intensity, vision, style, range, and raw talent are unmatched. I spent many hours on the Fleetwood Mac The Ledge message board over the course of my life with fellow die hard Fleetwood Mac fans - I lived on that Lindsey message board!
